You will first want to download Microsoft Security Essentials on your Windows server. Select the language of your choice and 64-bit version.
Microsoft Security Essentials Download: https://www.microsoft.com/es-es/download/details.aspx?id=5201
Save the mseinstall.exe file somewhere on the server, don't just run it, as by default the installation will fail with the following error:
Microsoft Security Essentials cannot be installed on your operating system.
Your version of Windows operating system is not compatible with this program.
To avoid this error message, right-click the mseinstall.exe file and select Properties.
From the properties window, select the compatibility tab. Inside the compatibility tab, check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" in Compatibility mode and select Windows 7 from the drop down box,
If you were to run the mseinstall.exe file at this point, you would get a different error as shown below:
Microsoft Security Essentials cannot be installed on your operating system.
Windows program compatibility mode is not supported by this program.
To resolve this, run the command prompt as administrator and enter the folder where the mseinstall.exe file is located. Run the mseinstall.exe file with the / disableoslimit flag at the end, as shown below.
"cd downloads" and press entrer (without quotes) then:
mseinstall.exe /disableoslimit
The installation wizard should now open correctly and Microsoft Security Essentials can now be installed and will continue without the above error messages, click Next to continue and work with the installation wizard.
After the installation is complete, you can update and perform an optional scan, this is recommended as the definitions database must be kept up-to-date to find newer threats. An internet connection will be required to download the definition updates available through the app, however they can also come from Windows updates, so if you have a WSUS server, you can update from here as well. After the update a quick scan will be carried out.
